Pure theatrical magic and a Disney legend, Beauty and the Beast tickets have been wowing audiences world-wide since 1994. The sixth-longest running show in Broadway history, Beauty and the Beast was nominated for nine Tony Awards in 1994, including Best Musical. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, Disney has created their first Broadway musical with special effects, illusions, dazzling production numbers, and of course, the songs.
Opening to raves across the world, "Beauty and the Beast" follows the classic tale of Belle, who is living in a French provincial town wither her inventor father. When her father does not return home one evening, Belle is frantic to learn that her father has been kidnapped by the beast that lives in the old castle. She trades her freedom for her father and agrees to live in the castle with the beast and his enchanted companions. Over time, with the help of her friends, including Lumiere the candlestick and Cogsworth the clock, Belle is able to tame the beast and help him with his transformation back into the handsome prince.
The songs are all from the Disney movie of the same name. Oscar winning, show stopping numbers such as "Gaston," "Be Our Guest," "Something There," and "Beauty and the Beast," have all been masterfully arranged for the stage from the screen. Written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, plus new songs written especially for the musical by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice, these songs are sure to be a big hit with the kids as well as adults.
The use of sets and costumes contribute to "Beauty and the Beast's faithful adaptation from the original film. The sets all contribute to the feeling of the song. In the beginning the bright primary colors of both sets and costumes represent the carefree, happiness of a young girl. Towards the end of the musical, the muted tones of both the set and the costumes, in gray and somber colors contribute to Gaston's and the mob's sense of foreboding.
