NFL Teams to Watch
Who has it? Who doesn't? The following 12 teams could have what it takes to make a good splash this year.

Overall the New York Jets were solid in 2010. Naturally the team is a reflection of Rex Ryan so defense is the heart of the matter. With the heart of the defense coming back, the NFL’s top ranked unit in 2009 should be just as good or even better in 2011. Cornerback Darelle Revis is among the best in the NFL and the Jets went out and signed Antonio Cromartie to beef up the other side. Depth and the future are assured with the drafting of cornerback Kyle Wilson. The linebacker position is strong with David harris coming into his own. Calvin Pace working from the OLB position, and the addition of Jason Taylor is the offseason..

New England Patriots: For the Patriots offense it all begins with Tom Brady and that’s a good thing. Brady’s performance suffered after his knee surgery, a post-operative infection, and getting nailed behind a struggling offensive line all season long. Having Wes Welker missing late in the season didn’t help either. But now Tom Brady is healthy again. It’s almost impossible to believe he won’t return to form and that’s a major boost for Patriots tickets.
Helping Brady get back on track in the passing game means Randy Moss and Wes Welker have to both be on the field. Welker is expected to return but it remains to be seen how his recovery is going. The Patriots picked up Torry Holt and he should be a reliable go to guy though not a game changer. Brandon Tate could also have a break out year if he gets enough playing time. Meanwhile the ground game seems to in multiple hands. Fred Taylor and Sammy Morris are both reliable, and Laurence Maroney is still a load to bring down. Kevin Faulk can tote the pigskin or catch it out of the backfield, making him a good 3rd down back.

Baltimore Ravens: While the Ravens defense is too good not to play a prominent role in the Ravens fortunes, it’s pretty clear that Joe Flacco is the guy set to push the Ravens into the final mile. Flacco has now engineered two consecutive playoff seasons, the last taking the Ravens all the way to the AFC Championship. In an attempt to give Flacco as many weapons as possible the Baltimore Ravens hit the market for wide receivers, signing Donte Stallworth and trading with the Cardinals for Anquan Boldin.  The two complement each other nicely, with Boldin making tough catches across the middle and Stallworth a speedy player who can stretch a defense.  These two should make Ravens tickets more of an offensive show that Baltimore fans are used to. But they’ll like it. Of course the Ravens offense is still built around the run and running back Ray Rice showed he can carry the load. Rice gained 1,339 yards over the course of the season, but more importantly elevated his game in the playoffs. With Willis McGahee offering a nice change of pace, the Baltimore running game is a solid foundation for Joe Flacco to build upon.

Pittsburgh Steelers: The biggest questions about the Pittsburgh Steelers begin with the quarterback position. Roethlisberger is scheduled to sit out the first six weeks of the season. During that time the Steelers toughest games look to be the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens. Taking over at QB will be either Dennis Dixon, Charlie Batch, or Byron Leftwich, a draft day pickup. Dixon was a solid replacement when he played against the Ravens. He’s got good arm strength and mobility but is not as accomplished or experienced as Roethlisberger or Leftwich. Training camp will sort this situation out but it appears obvious that the rest of the team will have to pick up the slack until Big Ben regains the field.

San Diego Chargers: The gradual transition into a team that belongs to Philip Rivers and not LaDainian Tomlinson has occurred over the last two seasons. The Pro Bowl running back has faded into the background and now Philip Rivers has arisen as the leader of this tea. Along the way the Chargers have evolved from a run oriented team into one of the highest scoring teams in the NFL, relying on the passing game to put points on the board. In 2009 River topped the 4,000 yard mark and threw 28 touchdown passes. More importantly, Philip Rivers is the guy Chargers players turn to when the going gets tough. His rapport with wide receiver Vincent Jackson and tight end Antonio Gates makes the Chargers offense as dangerous as any in the league.  The emergence of running back Ryan Mathews as a pounding back, and the quick hits of Darren Sproles, gives the San Diego Chargers a potent running game to finish things off.
