What are you doing in June? Are you're holding U.S. Open Golf Tournament tickets?
From the beginning, golf has always been a gentleman’s game. The rules and etiquette were taken seriously, and birdies would be well received by polite applause. Dress code was strictly enforced and women weren’t allowed. Fast-forward to today, add NASCAR-style fervor, 300+ yard drives, and beer, and you get golf tournaments that have become a lot more exciting.
Take for instance, this year’s US Open Championship. Held at the public Bethpage Black course, one of the most notoriously difficult courses in the world, the masses descended in droves for a chance to see their favorite golfer. Besieged by the pouring rain, the course turned into a giant mud pit. Yet, amidst steady shouts of, “Get in the hole!” the beer lines remained long, and spirits high.
The rain delays did not stop the increasingly rowdy crowd from unsportsmanlike chants to pass the time. Over at the grandstands behind 2 Green and 3 Tee, a mini-war had started. Buoyed by the bond of sitting in the same grandstand, 2 Green began to taunt, “3 Tee sucks! 3 Tee sucks!” The grandstand behind 3 Tee collected their wits to respond loudly and joyfully, “2 Green swallows! 2 Green swallows!”
Later, the two grandstands joined forces to perform the Wave to each incoming golfer, and needless to say, when the ball finally dropped into the cup, it was to raucous cheers, not polite applause.
